My therapist told me to write a letter to my dad and never send it, worst advice I ever got
Everyone in my support group swore by this letter thing, and my therapist in Austin pushed it hard in March. So I wrote 4 pages to my dad about him missing my wedding in 2019 and left it in a drawer like she said. Two weeks later I read it again and got mad all over again, nothing felt done at all. I finally called him and said we were done talking for a while, and that 10 minute call did more than 4 pages of writing ever did. Some of us just need to say the thing out loud to the person, not to paper. Did writing that letter actually help anyone here, or did it just stir stuff up like it did for me?
