PSA: my group chat went from 40 texts a day to silence in 5 weeks and I was the one who killed it
Back in March my college group chat was popping, like 40 texts a day, inside jokes, plans every weekend. Then I started noticing I was always the one starting stuff. So I quit cold turkey for 3 weeks to see what happened. Not one person messaged me. Nothing. When I finally peeked back in, they had made a whole new chat. My buddy Dan admitted it, said they got tired of me canceling plans and just made a new one. Turns out 2 of them had been annoyed at me since a trip to Nashville in January and never said a word. The old chat has 11 people in it and it has been dead silent since April 2nd. So bridges burn both ways I guess. Has anyone else found out they were the problem after the friend group already moved on?
Nashville in January, that's the tell. It wasn't the canceled plans, it was whatever went down on that trip and nobody said a word for three months. I've been on both ends of this, so here's the hard part: making a new chat is way easier than having one awkward talk. Eleven people and not one of them could text you "hey man, what happened in Nashville?" That says as much about them as it does about you. My advice is skip the group chat graveyard and reach out to Dan one on one, not to beg back in but to actually hear what you did. Getting the real story stings for a week, but sitting in a dead chat for months wondering is way worse.
