It was three months ago and I finally blocked my aunt Janet after 10 years of her calling me lazy for not having kids. That same week I realized she had been on my joint savings account since I was 16. I walked into the credit union on Elm Street and had her name removed right at the teller window. The teller said she had never seen someone smile so hard while closing a joint account. Between the silence on my phone and the extra $200 she used to take for 'family emergencies', my stress level dropped by half. Has anyone else had that weird moment where cutting off one person suddenly made you see other leeches you missed?

Wait wait wait - she was taking 200 bucks a month for 'family emergencies'? That is wild. I had an uncle who used to 'borrow' my power drill every time I turned around and somehow it always came back broken or missing parts. But actual cash from your savings account? That is next level. The nerve of some people, treating your bank account like their personal emergency fund. I am honestly surprised you didn't blow a gasket when you found out.

Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean yeah, $200 a month adds up, but if she was helping with actual emergencies, maybe it wasn't totally crazy. @ivan_murphy80 is probably right that it explains things, but I've seen way worse cases of people treating family like ATMs.
