I thought those fancy Japanese whetstones were just hype
My boss got a Shapton 1000 grit stone for the shop and I rolled my eyes, but after sharpening my boning knife on it, the edge lasted through a whole 8-hour shift breaking down hogs. Has anyone else switched to a specific stone and been totally surprised?

Switched to a King stone, same shock.

Maybe the shock is just part of riding that specific deck.

Wait, could it be your riding style instead?

My buddy Mark had that exact thing happen with his old board. He swapped out the whole setup for a Kingpin truck and a fresh deck, thinking it would fix the wobble. First push down the street, he hit a tiny crack and it felt just as jarring. Turns out his bushings were way too hard for his weight. He went down a duro and it was like riding on clouds after that.
