My old band saw finally gave up the ghost last Thursday
It was a 20 year old Hobart I bought used from a shop closing in Tacoma. The motor just seized right in the middle of breaking down a side of beef. I had to finish the job with a hand saw, which took me an extra hour and a half. It's funny, I knew that thing was on its last legs, but you get used to the sound and the feel of a machine. I priced out a new one and it's over two grand, which hurts. For now I'm borrowing a buddy's saw while I figure out if I can afford the repair or just bite the bullet. Has anyone had any luck rebuilding the motor on one of those old Hobarts, or is it a lost cause?
