Shoutout to the $22 magnetic knife strip I finally put up after 4 months
I kept my 8 inch breaking knife and boning knife loose in a drawer next to my cutting board for way too long. Last month I finally screwed a $22 magnetic strip into the wall above my station, and now I reach for the right blade without even looking. It also stopped the little nicks I kept getting on my knuckles from digging around blind. Anyone else got a cheap fix that ended up changing how you work more than some fancy tool did?
Laughing at myself here because my version of this was stabbing a strip of velcro to the wall for my cheap paring knives and feeling like a genius for a whole week. In my experience the dumb cheap fixes beat the fancy stuff more often than not, since you actually use them. I did the same drawer dig for months and my knuckles still have the scars to prove it, so your knick story hit close to home. One thing to watch with the magnet strip is heavy blades slowly sliding if you bump the wall, so give the big ones a little extra room. Your mileage may vary but mine held up fine for the lighter knives and I never went back to the drawer. Take this with a grain of salt, but sometimes the twenty dollar fix does more than the two hundred dollar one.
