Stuck with my old brass hog ring pliers over the new spring loaded ones
I have been doing meat cutting for about 12 years now. My old timer mentor swore by the brass pliers and said the new ones break too easy. Last month I bought a set of those spring loaded hog ring pliers from the supply catalog. Within two weeks the spring snapped off on a batch of pork shoulders. I went back to my old brass pair and they have been running smooth for another month now. Has anyone else had trouble with the newer style pliers not holding up?

Appreciate you sharing this, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who went back to the old reliable tools after trying the new ones.

Man those spring loaded ones look great in the catalog but they just don't hold up. My old brass pliers have outlasted two new fancy pairs I tried, one lasted exactly one shift before the handle pin bent out. Guess I'm stuck being old school too, at least my hands don't cramp up as bad with the brass ones.

Man those spring loaded ones look great in the catalog" - yeah, kinda like how my new boots looked great before the sole fell off.
