Bought a $12 plastic scraper instead of the $40 steel one and my cast iron is worse off
For about 3 years I scraped my cast iron with whatever cheap plastic spatula was in the drawer, thinking I was being careful with the seasoning. Last month my buddy in Denver handed me his stiff steel scraper while we were cleaning up after breakfast and the gunk came off in one pass instead of the five minutes I usually spent. Turns out I was never really getting the pan clean and had a low-key sticky layer building up the whole time. I get that plastic feels safer but now I'm wondering what else I've been babying that didn't need it. What's the one tool you swapped after realizing the cheap version was actually costing you more work?
