Hot take: That expensive Filson jacket looked way worse after just one winter of actual use

I bought a Filson tin cloth jacket last November for $350. Everyone says these things last forever. Six months later the sleeves are frayed at the cuffs and there's a permanent oil stain on the front that won't come out. I used their wax bar too. My buddy's Carhartt from 2019 looks newer than this. Am I the only one who thinks the BIFL hype on these is overblown? Anyone had better luck with a different brand for actual work not just sitting in a coffee shop?

Ha! You're probably right but let me push back on that a bit. There's a real difference between a $20 tee from Target and a $60 one from a place that uses ringspun cotton and double stitching. The cheap ones usually shrink weird and the collar gets all wavy after a few washes. I've got a couple of those "name only" shirts that have held up for years where the seams are still straight and the fabric feels the same as day one. But yeah, if you're paying $200 for a basic white tee with a tiny logo, that's paying for the name. The line gets fuzzy around $60-80 though, that's where you might actually get something built different.
