My $30 thrift store cast iron skillet turned out to be a 1940s Wagner
I picked up this crusty old skillet at a Goodwill in Columbus for $30 like 4 years ago, just needed something heavy for cornbread. Didn't think much of it until I stripped it down with oven cleaner last month and found a smooth as glass cooking surface underneath. Turns out the markings match a Wagner Ware from the 1940s, not some modern Lodge copy. I've been cooking on it every day since and it's dead even across the whole pan. Has anyone else found a hidden gem like that at a thrift store or am I just lucky?

My Granddad's old Lodge from the 1930s came out of a barn sale here in Ohio for $8, and after stripping it the thing is slicker than my modern pans. @owens.anthony, your neighbor's Griswold find is proof that the good stuff is still out there if you're patient.

Did your friend ever find a similar old pan at a thrift store? My neighbor found a Griswold at a garage sale for five bucks, and it cooks beautifully after he cleaned it up. Lucky finds are out there if you keep looking.
