That $500 all-weather jacket I bought for hiking in Oregon totally let me down after 6 months

I dropped $500 on a supposedly rugged Gore-Tex jacket from a brand I trusted, but after 6 months of regular use in Portland rain, the inner lining started peeling off like cheap tape. The seams also gave out near the zipper after a few wet hikes. Has anyone else had a high-end coat fail way faster than expected, or did I just pick the wrong brand?

Got a buddy who bought a $600 Arc'teryx jacket for his trip to Iceland. First big rainstorm in Reykjavik, the waterproof zipper started leaking right down his chest. He had to wear a plastic poncho over it for the rest of the trip. When he got home and called customer service, they told him it was "user error" for wiping it wrong. He's still mad about it two years later.

Oof, that stings. You spend that kind of money thinking you're buying something bulletproof, and it fails on the first real test. Having to wear a plastic poncho over a $600 jacket is brutal. Your buddy has every right to still be mad, that's not some cheap rain shell from a gas station.
