Wasted $350 on a fancy camping stove that failed after 3 trips
Bought that Jetboil-looking knockoff from a REI clearance bin six months ago and the igniter died on the second trip, then the valve got sticky on the third. My buddy's 20 year old Coleman stove lit right up in the rain while I'm out $350 and eating cold beans at a campsite near Shenandoah. What's a decent stove that actually handles mud and moisture without crapping out after a season?

Honestly I used to be all about the expensive ultralight gear because I thought you get what you pay for. But after watching my friend's old Coleman stove fire right up in a downpour while my fancy one died, I totally changed my mind. I picked up a basic Coleman two burner for like 40 bucks and it's been through mud and rain without a hitch for two years now. Sometimes the cheap stuff that's been around forever just works better than the shiny new designs.

My buddy spent $200 on some titanium single burner thing and I used to think he was just smarter than me... then last fall we're both trying to cook in a drizzle and his fancy one wouldn't light to save his life. Meanwhile my old green Coleman that I got at a garage sale for $15 fired up on the second click like it always does. I had to eat my words because I used to swear by the lightweight stuff but now I'm the one bringing the heavy steel stove. That thing has been dropped down a ravine, sat in a puddle overnight, and still works better than anything I've ever bought new.
