I ditched Blum soft-close hinges for the cheap ones, no regrets

Everyone in this trade swears by soft-close hardware, but after 12 years of installs I went back to the standard self-closing hinges on my own kitchen remodel last month. The soft-close mechanism kept failing on customer doors after about 3 years, and I was replacing them under warranty every other quarter. A basic $2 hinge from the supply house in Knoxville has never let me down, and the slam is not that bad once you adjust the tension right. Clients ask for quiet, but they don't ask for the repair bill when the piston gives out. Am I crazy for thinking simplicity beats the fancy stuff, or has anyone else gone backward on this and stuck with it?
