Shoutout to the old-timer at a job site in Des Moines who straightened me out on finish sanding

I mean, that reminds me of this old guy I worked with in Omaha who insisted on using a block of wood with a piece of sandpaper wrapped around it instead of any fancy orbital sander. He said if you can't feel the grain through your fingertips you're just guessing at it. Took me forever to get used to doing it that way but man, the finish was always way smoother.

My buddy tried that once on an old desk he was refinishing. Said his hands were wrecked after but he could feel every single imperfection. He still swears by it for curved edges.
