Tried using a router sled to flatten a butcher block top and it came out worse than hand planing
I built a 4 foot long walnut butcher block counter for a client in Portland and decided to try a router sled setup I saw on YouTube. Spent 3 hours building a frame with leveling feet, but the bit left swirl marks and a slight dip in the middle that I couldn't fix. Ended up spending another 2 hours with my No. 7 plane to get it flat again. Has anyone else had more luck with a belt sander for this kind of job?

YouTube's got a way of making everything look easier than it is, doesn't it? Seems like half the stuff people post online skips over the real grit of getting it done.

Actually belt sanders make things worse way faster, I've had great results with a router sled on big glue ups.
