I started recording every call with my cable provider and the 40 minute hold times dropped to 8 minutes
Back in January I was calling Comcast about a billing error almost every other day, and each time I got stuck on hold for at least 35 to 40 minutes before a human picked up. I started using the voice memo app on my phone to record the whole call after I read online that it might make them move faster. The change was wild. Once I said at the start of the call that I was recording for my own records, the rep stopped putting me on hold and just fixed the $60 overcharge right there in about 8 minutes. I did this three more times over two months and every single call stayed under 10 minutes. One rep even gave me a $25 credit without me asking, I think just to get me off the line politely. It is not a magic trick and you still have to be calm and clear about what you want. Has anyone else tried saying you are recording the call, and did it actually speed things up for you or did they just hang up?
