Old school phone line vs fiber, I picked wrong twice
Honestly, back in 2019 I had to choose between keeping my ancient DSL line that never dropped once or switching to this new fiber install in my neighborhood. The fiber promo was $49 a month for a year, cheaper than my $65 DSL, so I jumped on it without thinking. Six months in, the fiber box died during a storm and the repair guy said parts were backordered for 3 weeks. Meanwhile my neighbor with DSL watched 4K streams fine the whole time. I switched back to DSL after that, paid the early termination fee, and now I tell everyone to just ask what the actual outage record is before they sign anything. Has anyone else gone back to an older tech after a new one let them down?

That's exactly the trap I fell into with cable vs DSL years ago. Everyone was dumping cable because of the price and the speed, but nobody mentioned that the node on my street was ancient and would drop every time it rained hard. I kept a cheap DSL backup line for years just to get through the worst of it, and honestly it was worth every penny for the peace of mind. These days I check the local outage maps and forum posts from people who live within a few blocks before I even think about switching.
