Update: I blamed my ISP for 8 months of slow wifi, then found the real problem in my own living room
I used to be the loudest person in this community yelling about my provider, but last Tuesday a tech named Marcus came out to my place in Boise and showed me something I did not want to see. For 8 months I was paying for a 500 Mbps plan and getting 40 Mbps on my laptop, and I filed 3 complaints and demanded 2 credits. Marcus asked one thing, how old is your router, and I said 6 years, and he just laughed and pointed at the 2017 model I bought at a garage sale. He also found my smart TV, my old tablet, and a wifi doorbell all camped on the same 2.4 band, choking everything out. I felt like a jerk for yelling at support when the fix was a $70 router and one phone call to change my settings. Has anyone else here found out the bad guy was their own setup and not the company?
