A guy in a van told me to stop stapling cable to the stud and use screw clips, and he was right
Had a rough one in a 1920s house near Richmond last month, three rework calls in two weeks because staples were pinching the coax and killing the signal. A retired installer in a beat up van pulled up while I was on the ladder and said, quit stapling to the stud, use screw clips with a little slack. I figured he was just old school, but the next 6 runs held perfect on the meter and the callbacks stopped. Cost me about $14 more per job for clips, which is nothing compared to driving back out there. Any of you still staple, or did you switch over too?
Why would you keep stapling after that? Staples crush the cable and mess with the signal, that part is not even a debate. Screw clips give you a little room so the cable can breathe and nothing gets pinched when the studs move with the seasons. Fourteen bucks a job is nothing when one callback eats up your whole afternoon plus gas. I switched years ago and have not gone back once. Old guys know stuff because they already made the mistake you are about to make.
