Finally tried a fish tape reel vs just pulling by hand

I was always too cheap to buy a proper fish tape reel, been using a basic 25 foot one for years. Picked up a Klein reel kit after fighting a nasty conduit run in an old apartment building last week. Cut my time on the next job by almost half and my hands thank me. Anyone else stick with the old way too long before upgrading?

Yeah I was the same way, thought pulling by hand was fine and the reel was just a gimmick. Then I grabbed one after a long day and @jessica707 is spot on about the time savings, it's crazy how much easier it makes tight spots. Changed my mind completely just from that first job with it.

You people act like this is life changing medical equipment. It's a reel of wire. I still pull by hand most of the time and it works fine. Coat hanger story sounds like bad planning more than anything. If you know what you're doing you don't need fancy tools for every little job. Half an hour saved is nothing in the grand scheme of a whole day. But I guess if you have money to burn and want to feel like a pro go for it.

Cut my time on the next job by almost half" - that's EXACTLY what my buddy said after he finally got a legit reel. He was using a hand-bent coat hanger for years on apartment jobs, and I'm not kidding, one time it snapped in the middle of a conduit and he just sat there staring at the wall for like 5 minutes.
