Old timer told me to stop using gel crimps for outdoor splices
I always used gel crimps for my outdoor splices because thats what I learned. After a big storm last summer in Phoenix I had to redo 6 of them because they were getting moisture inside. Now I only use heat shrink with adhesive on any outside work. Any of you guys make that switch?.

Yeah you tried the cheap route before too? Heat shrink is the only way to go.

Tape always lets you down eventually. Heat shrink is the only fix that lasts.

Man, tell me about it. I tried electrical tape once on some speaker wire and it was a disaster. The tape just peeled off after a few months and left a sticky mess everywhere. Heat shrink is hands down the cleanest and most reliable option for any wiring job.
