Overheard a foreman say 'straight lines are for maps, not cable' and it flipped my whole approach

I used to stress about making every run perfectly parallel until I saw him fix a nightmare install in 20 minutes by just following the path of least resistance. Has anyone else gotten better results by ditching the ruler on residential jobs?

Straight lines are for maps, not cable" sounds like something my foreman would say right before making me look like a fool for spending 2 hours on a perfect 90 degree bend. Guess I'll start embracing the zigzag life.

Zigzag is faster and the foreman doesn't care how pretty it looks.
