PSA: I used to skip ground wire checks until a close call.

Now I test every ground, no exceptions.

Seriously though, how often do you actually find a bad ground? I get being safe, but that sounds like a lot of extra work for something that rarely goes wrong.

Last month at the local shop, they had three cars with stereo problems from bad grounds. That smoke is from a short caused by a bad ground. It might not happen often, but when it does, it costs you. Testing takes two minutes with a meter, not a huge effort. If you skip it, you're rolling the dice. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Ever had a stereo just go dead? In my experience, a bad ground is the first thing I check now, saves a ton of headache later.

You said how often do you find a bad ground, but my buddy skipped checking his car stereo. It popped and smoked when he turned it on. Now he tests every connection.
