Vent: my lead told me to zip tie the drop to the gas line and I said no
Back in March I was on a two story in Boise and my lead told me to strap the drop to the gas meter pipe because the siding was too soft to hold a clip. I refused because that just feels wrong even if the code guy never looks up there, and he called me slow for running it the long way around. So who is right here, do you strap to whatever holds or do you eat the extra 20 feet and keep it clean?
do you strap to whatever holds" is the question that gets people in trouble. Had a buddy a few years back strap his drop to the meter pipe on a reno, and the inspector caught it on final. Didn't matter that it held fine for months, code says keep the two apart and the guy made him redo the whole run on his own dime. Cost him a weekend and a spool of wire. Eat the 20 feet and keep it clean, you were right.
