I finally bought a used leaf shutter tester for $85 off eBay
Turned out the calibration was off by a full stop on every lens I tested, so I spent another $40 on a calibration chart and a weekend fixing it - has anyone else gotten burned by old test gear bought online?

My buddy bought a light meter off eBay and it was reading two stops off.

Two stops off is a lot. You can usually check a meter yourself pretty easy by metering a grey card in open shade and comparing it to a sunny 16 reading. If it's off by a consistent amount you can just dial in the ISO compensation and still use it.

Two stops off is wild man. I mean a full stop was bad enough but twice that? That's basically useless right out of the box.
