Just learned that old lens fungus can be stopped with a UV light trick

So I was reading through a repair forum archive from like 2012 and stumbled on this thread about lens fungus. Apparently hitting the infected glass with a strong UV-C light for a few hours can actually kill the spores, not just slow them down. I always thought the only fix was full disassembly and cleaning, which is a pain when the fungus is between cemented elements. Tried it on an old 50mm I had sitting in a basement for years, and the spreading stopped after two sessions of about 3 hours each. The glass still has some etching marks, but it's usable now, which is way better than the $150 replacement quote I got from a shop in Portland. Has anyone else tested this method, or do you all just stick to the chemical cleaning route?

UV-C can help, but it doesn't always kill spores deep between the glass layers.
