Serious question, original parts or third party on a 1970s Canon?
Last week I had to choose between a $60 original Canon shutter button and a $15 third party one for a client's AE-1. I went with the third party to save them money. The button worked fine for two days then started sticking on half press. Now I have to redo the whole job and explain why the bill just went up. Has anyone else had third party parts fail like this or did I just get a bad batch?

Oh man, "started sticking on half press" - that's the exact kind of nightmare that keeps me from trusting cheap parts on anything mechanical. I've had a third party light seal kit fail in under a year on my own F-1, just turned into goo and got all over the mirror box. For something as simple as a shutter button though, it's crazy that a $15 part can't even do its basic job for more than two days. You probably just got a bad batch, but in my experience original Canon parts from that era are built to last another 50 years, while the aftermarket stuff is a total crapshoot.

$60 for a shutter button is crazy town. @foster.tessa, you said you had that F-1 light seal goo problem - what brand were those seals? I'm curious if it's the same manufacturer making all this garbage. The button I used was from a seller called "CameraPartsExpress" and it had zero branding on the package. I should have known better when the plastic felt lighter than the original.
