Spent 4 hours fixing a shutter that just needed cleaning

I was working on an old Minolta SR-T 202 last week and the shutter was sticking at 1/1000. Took me forever trying to adjust the tension, replaced a spring, the whole deal. Finally realized after like 4 hours that there was just a tiny bit of old grease gumming up the mechanism. Has anyone else wasted a ton of time on something super simple like this?

Sounds like you were pretty deep in the weeds on that one. Could argue that four hours on a clean-and-lube job is just part of the learning curve, even if it stings. Still, a bit of old grease probably wasn't catastrophic, so maybe it's more of a lesson in patience than a real disaster.

Yeah I'd say that's about right.

Yeah that "deep in the weeds" thing hits hard. My rule now is always check for gunk first before I start messing with adjustments or replacing parts.
