That $30 lens spanner wrench set from Amazon was pure junk
Bought a cheap spanner set off Amazon to adjust a stuck helicoid on a vintage 50mm. The tips bent on the FIRST turn and scratched up the retaining ring. Has anyone else had luck with a specific brand or do I need to just pony up for the proper one from Japan?
Did you try sharpening the tips before you started? Cheap spanners are often soft steel, but a quick pass on a whetstone makes them bite better and stops them from bending. I have grabbed the cheap ones and they work fine once you treat them like a tool that needs prep, not a finished product.
