Thought my shutter cleaning took 20 minutes until I timed myself

I had this old Pentax Spotmatic that kept having sticky shutter speeds. I figured I'd just swab the blades real quick and be done. Three hours later I was still picking at dried grease with a toothpick under a loupe. The whole thing took me 5 hours spread over two nights before I got consistent results. Has anyone else found that their quick fixes balloon into full tear-downs?

And then you look up and it's 2am and you're wondering if you even own a camera anymore or if you've just signed up for a new hobby called "cleaning tiny things with tweezers." I swear every time I think I'm doing a quick lube job on a leaf shutter I end up with the entire lens mount disassembled and a diagram printed from some forum from 2007. Mine was supposed to be a 15 minute CLA on a Mamiya and I ended up rebuilding the whole shutter mechanism from scratch because I lost two screws on the carpet. You ever just sit there staring at a pile of brass gears wondering if you should have left well enough alone?

two screws on the carpet" oh man that hit close to home. I was doing what I thought was a quick CLA on a beat up Yashica Mat one time and somehow ended up with the entire taking lens disassembled on a paper towel. Found a tiny ball bearing that I swear came from nowhere and spent an hour trying to figure out where it fit. I still have no idea if I put it back right, but the camera works so I guess it's just a souvenir now. I've got a little jar of "mystery hardware" too, it's basically just a graveyard of tiny bits I'm too scared to throw away.

Three weeks ago I told myself I'd just blow some dust off a shutter curtain and ended up with the whole mirror box in pieces on my kitchen table. @roberts.leo I feel that 2007 forum printout pain in my soul. I keep a literal jar of "carpet screws" now from past disasters.
