TIL a guy at the Omaha camera swap said to skip the seal kit on my AE-1 and he was dead right

I bought a $28 light seal kit and he waved me off, saying the old foam on these bodies crumbles and messes up the mirror box worse than the leak itself. Two months of shooting later, zero fogged frames, and the mirror still snaps clean. Has anyone else had a light leak turn out to be nothing but a bad back door hinge?
