Vent: the week 4 Rolleiflexes came in and I actually fixed all of them
Last Tuesday a guy drives up from Tucson with a box of 4 Rolleiflex TLRs his dad left him, all locked up, and I figure maybe I get one running. First one was just a bent winding fork, easy. Second had a shutter that was glued shut from old lube, took me 3 hours with naptha and a tiny brush. Third one had a cracked mirror, swapped in a spare I had sitting in a drawer for 2 years. Fourth one fought me, the focus knob was stripped and I had to make a shim from a soda can, which sounds dumb but it worked perfect. By Friday all 4 were clicking right and he paid me $340 plus a box of doughnuts. I stood in the shop after he left and just felt good, you know? That kind of week does not come around much anymore with everyone shooting phones. What is the weirdest shim material you guys have used when the right part is not in stock?
