Can we talk about how my $12 foam pad beat my $130 air pad on rocks?
I grabbed a cheap closed cell foam pad at a garage sale in Tucson for $12 and brought it along as a backup on a trip to the Superstitions in March. My fancy inflatable pad popped on a thorn night one, and I spent two nights on that beat up foam while my buddy kept sinking into his leaky $130 pad. The foam never bottomed out and I woke up with zero hip pain, which surprised me since it feels like a brick at home. I think the ground was the real test here and the foam just handled it better. Has anyone else gone back to foam after years on air, or am I just lucky?
Dude, one lucky night doesn't prove anything. Sleeping on a brick works fine until your back decides otherwise, and foam pads suck for side sleeping on any real trip.
