Found out my tent's waterproof rating was a total lie

Bought a cheap 2 person tent from a big box store last year. Said it had a 2000mm hydrostatic head rating. Got soaked in a light rain during a trip to the Smokies. Looked up the brand's actual spec sheet online. Turns out the fly fabric only hits 800mm. The 2000mm number was for the floor. Feel like I got tricked. Anyone else have a tent that failed way below its advertised rating?

Remember my buddy's leaky festival tent? He swore by the specs until a drizzle got his sleeping bag soaked. Turns out his fly was rated for a light mist, not real rain. He just buys known brands now, no more mystery numbers.

That 800mm fly is still fine for most weekend trips.
