My buddy told me his $30 sleeping bag from a gas station saved his trip in the Tetons

We were packing up for a weekend trip and I was showing off my new 0-degree down bag, all proud of the $280 price tag. He just laughed and said, 'Man, I got caught in a surprise snowstorm last fall near Jackson Hole. My fancy bag got soaked, but I had that old gas station bag in the truck as a spare. It's basically a cotton sack with a zipper, but it kept me from freezing. Slept like a baby.' It hit different because I always thought more money meant better gear, no question. Now I'm looking at my pile of expensive stuff and wondering if I'm just paying for labels. Has anyone else had a cheap piece of gear totally save the day when the expensive one failed?

Guess the Tetons don't check price tags.

Yeah, that's so real. My cheap rain poncho has outlasted two fancy jackets. Sometimes the simple stuff just works when it counts.

It's like the universe's law of cheap things that just get the job done.
