My cheap tarp failed during a downpour in the Smokies, soaked everything
Tbh I bought a $12 blue tarp from a flea market in Knoxville and thought it would be fine for a weekend trip. Last Saturday the rain hit hard around 2am and water pooled right in the middle, then it tore along the seam. My sleeping bag and clothes got completely drenched, and I had to pack up in the dark with headlamp fogging up. I should've spent the extra $30 on a real poly tarp with reinforced grommets, but now I'm wondering what budget gear you guys trust for heavy storms. Has anyone else had a cheap tarp fail at the worst possible moment?
