PSA: I picked a 4-season tent for year-round use in Colorado and it was a mistake for summer.
After three hot, stuffy July nights in the Rockies, I realized the extra weight and poor ventilation weren't worth it for 90% of my trips, so what's a good 3-season alternative that can handle a surprise spring snow?

You said "4-season tent for year-round use" but that's kinda the issue. Those are really 3-season plus winter, not made for summer heat. I switched to a solid 3-season with a full mesh inner and it's way better for like 90% of Colorado. My Big Agnes Copper Spur handles a late spring dusting just fine if you use the solid fly.

Tell me you've woken up in a sweaty tent sauna without telling me. My old "four season" was basically a nylon oven by June, good for maybe two weeks of actual Colorado winter. You're totally right, a solid three season with full mesh is the move for most of the year. I'd rather shake a little snow off the fly than try to sleep in a puddle of my own sweat.

My last four-season tent felt like a personal greenhouse by Memorial Day weekend.
