Rant: I packed my sleeping pad the wrong way for 3 years and never knew
Last weekend at Lake George I watched a guy roll his pad up with the valve open and it hit me that I'd been fighting mine for years. I was rolling it tight from the foot end with the valve closed, which traps a bunch of air and turns the whole thing into a wrestling match. Turns out if you open the valve and roll it loose from the head end, the air just walks out on its own and it packs down way smaller in about 10 seconds. My pad has been stored fat and lumpy in the bottom of my pack this whole time because of this. Any of you got a gear habit you figured out way too late that you wish someone had pointed out sooner?
