Serious question, after a damp night out, are down bags worth the hype?
My last trip had constant drizzle, and my down bag got damp. One side says down is lighter and warmer for the weight. The other side points out synthetic fills handle moisture better and cost less. I spent the next day waiting for my bag to dry, which was not fun. Which insulation type do you trust for unpredictable weather?

Down's better warmth makes the hassle worth it.

Seriously, your buddy was up all night trying to dry his down bag? I can't imagine dealing with that. I mean, @wyatt134 says the warmth is worth it, but losing sleep sounds terrible. I had a down bag get damp once, and it was so frustrating waiting for it to dry. Now I use synthetic, and even if it's bulkier, at least I'm not stressed about moisture.

Ever been totally soaked and just need to sleep? That's why I switched. My old down bag was a champ in the dry cold, but a total sponge in the Pacific Northwest mist. I got a good synthetic bag now. Sure, it's a bit bulkier, but I've slept cozy in a damp tent when my buddy was up all night trying to dry his down. For me, reliable warmth beats a little extra packing size every time.

That's a solid point about synthetic bags holding up in damp weather. Down can really struggle when it gets wet, taking forever to dry out. Synthetic fill keeps you warm even if it's damp, which is a game changer for rainy hikes. Have you noticed any difference in how long your synthetic bag lasts compared to down?
