That guy at REI told me I needed a 0 degree bag for summer camping in Virginia. He was dead wrong.
I bought a 0 degree down bag back in June because some know-it-all employee said "you'll thank me when it gets chilly at night." First trip out to Shenandoah, I woke up drenched in sweat at 2 AM. Had to sleep on top of the bag with just a liner for the rest of the weekend. That thing is a furnace. Now it sits in my closet and I use a $40 fleece blanket instead. Has anyone else gotten totally bad advice from store staff that led to a useless purchase?

Wait, did you check the bag's temperature rating before you bought it? I actually think he might've been trying to help you avoid a cold night instead of a hot one (since weather in the mountains can flip real fast).

Yeah I definitely didn't check the rating, just grabbed the cheapest one off the shelf and figured I'd be fine. That's on me, I guess the guy was probably trying to save me from freezing my toes off up there when the sun goes down. But man, it was like sleeping inside a pizza oven that night, I was literally peeling layers off every hour just to survive. Maybe I should just cut my losses and use it as a winter bag, but then I'd probably end up complaining about being cold instead haha.
