That influencer's 'waterproof' tent recommendation failed me hard

Some guy on YouTube with 500k subs said the Big Agnes Copper Spur would handle a storm no problem, and I bought it based on that. Last weekend in the Smokies, rain got through the seams at 2 AM and soaked my sleeping bag. What tent actually holds up under heavy rain that's not $600?

Respect the Trailbreak but the fly doesn't seal as tight on windy nights. Have you tried seam sealing?

That sucks, sorry you had to deal with that. Getting soaked at 2 AM in the Smokies is a special kind of misery. Big Agnes tents are light, but thin fabric and seam tape just don't hold up to real downpours. For under $600, look at the REI Trailbreak or the Marmot Tungsten. Both have thicker floors and flys that go all the way to the ground. They're not ultralight but they'll keep you dry.

Nah, heavy tent equals miserable hike, not worth the trade off.
