Used to cram everything into one backpack for weekend trips until I finally bought a tent with separate storage pockets last spring
After years of digging through a pile of gear at 11 PM in the rain near Big Sur, those side pockets kept my stove and clothes dry and now I can actually find my headlamp without a meltdown, has anyone else found a simple feature that totally changed their campsite setup?

That wet, muddy gear scramble is the worst, glad you found a solution.

The worst" is exactly right. I remember one trip where I was trying to pack a wet tent in the rain and my sleeping bag got damp from just the mud on my gloves. Finally switched to a system where I keep a separate dry bag just for my sleep kit and a big contractor bag for the muddy stuff. Now I just shove the wet tent and groundsheet into that contractor bag before it touches anything else. It adds maybe 30 seconds but saves me from having to dry everything out at camp. A little pre-planning makes a world of difference.

lily57 nailed it with the muddy gear scramble being the absolute worst, and that contractor bag trick is genius for keeping your sleep kit separate. A dry sleeping bag makes or breaks a whole trip for me too.
