Watched my brand new camp chair fold up with me still in it
Bought this chair for stability, but it collapsed at the worst moment. Now I have a funny story and a bruised ego.

Oof, that's rough. Maybe it's just me but chairs always fold at the worst time.

You said chairs always fold at the worst time, @the_fiona, but I see it differently. A chair giving out when you're alone is just a silly thing, like when my kitchen chair dropped me last week. It's not a big deal if no one is around to see it. But sure, if it breaks when you're with friends, that feels way worse. Isn't it more about who's watching than the chair itself? We probably only remember the truly bad times.

Seriously, my dining chair collapsed at a family dinner last month. Had to play it off like I planned that slide onto the floor. Now I do a full weight test on any chair before trusting it. Pretty sure my relatives still bring it up.

Check the screws under the seat first. Most chairs fail because they work loose over time. A quick tighten with a screwdriver every few months saves the embarrassment.
