Why does nobody talk about tent zippers failing at 2 AM in the rain

Was camped at Lake Almanor last October when a sudden downpour hit, my tent zipper got stuck halfway open. I ended up duct taping a trash bag over the opening to keep dry, took forever to fix in the dark. Anyone else dealt with a zipper blowout in bad weather?

Did you try swearing at it first? That's step one in my tent repair manual.

Man that trash bag trick is genius... I had the same thing happen at Tahoe and spent an hour trying to fix it with a flashlight in my mouth.

Oh man I feel that in my soul. That Tahoe road at night is no joke, especially when something like that happens and you're just standing there with a flashlight in your mouth feeling like an idiot. I've done the same thing more times than I want to admit, trying to hold a light while poking around in the dark. That trash bag trick is honestly a game changer though, wish I had known about it years ago. Next time I'm stuck on the side of the road I'm just gonna throw a bag over the dome light and be done with it.
