Woke up freezing and finally swapped my 20 degree bag for a quilt

I spent years thinking mummy bags were the only way to go for cold weather camping. Last trip up in the Adirondacks, I woke up at 3am shivering because I'd rolled over and compressed all the down on my back. A guy at the campsite let me try his 20 degree quilt for a few hours and I was way warmer even though it weighed less. Has anyone else switched from a bag to a quilt and noticed a big difference in how well you sleep?

I had a buddy who swore by his mummy bag for years until he borrowed a quilt for a trip in the White Mountains. He said he slept through the night for the first time in forever because he wasn't fighting the bag every time he rolled over.

Oh man, I actually just read something similar about side sleepers loving quilts because they don't trap your arms. It makes total sense, I toss around like crazy in my sleep too.

Told my buddy the same thing and he switched after one night froze.
