Hit 50 signatures on my free speech petition in one day at State U

I set up a table near the student union last Friday to gather support for open campus forums after the admin banned chalk messages, and I figured I'd get maybe 10 names. Instead, 50 students signed in 4 hours, including a professor who told me the rule change felt like a slap to the whole department. Has anyone else seen a free speech rule backfire this fast when students actually show up?

Right, and that professor basically confirmed what a lot of us were already feeling. The admin thinks a chalk ban is a tiny thing, but it hits way harder because it's so visible. You see the empty sidewalks and it just feels like they're trying to scrub out any opinion they didn't pre-approve. Plus, 50 names in 4 hours is not a small number, that's a real chunk of the student body that's actively annoyed. If they'd just let people chalk in one designated spot, they'd probably have zero drama right now. Instead, they created a whole new campus issue that's got people talking in class, in group chats, everywhere. They basically did your outreach for you.
