Hot take: Our school's 'pre-approved protest zones' versus the open quad last semester
The zones just made everything feel staged and fake, but the real talk happened when people just set up a mic in the open. Anyone else's campus try to box in where you can speak?

Totally get that. My university tried the same thing with designated "free speech lawns" last year. It just killed any real energy or surprise. The best conversations always happened when someone just showed up with a sign somewhere random, like outside the library. Putting it in a box makes it feel like a school play instead of actual protest.

Yeah, the official zones always feel super staged.
