I thought the free speech zone at Ohio State was a joke until I got penned in on the Oval
Last month I went to a campus protest about a speaker coming to OSU and the school told us we had to stay in this tiny fenced square near the library. I figured it was just normal rules, but then I counted the square and it was about 20 feet by 20 feet for like 80 of us while the other side had the whole Oval. Lot of people are saying schools need these zones to keep things safe, but others say it is just a way to make sure nobody sees the protest. Who is right here, and has your school done the same thing?
That 20x20 square for 80 people thing is nuts, sorry you had to deal with that. We had something kinda similar at my school where they shuffled us off to a parking lot behind a building so nobody walking by would even know we were there. You're not wrong to feel like it's about hiding you, that's exactly what it felt like for us.
