My friend got kicked out of a campus protest at UC Berkeley last month
We were walking to class and saw a big protest about a speaker coming to campus. My friend tried to ask a question about the speaker's past work, and a protest organizer told him to leave because he was 'disrupting the message.' It happened right by Sather Gate around 2 PM. Has anyone else seen people get shut down just for asking a simple question at a protest?

Yeah that happened to me once. Just came back later and talked to someone on the edge of the crowd instead.

That's a solid move, talking to someone on the edge. I usually try to make eye contact and give a small wave from a few feet away first, so I'm not just walking up on them. If they're locked in, I'll just grab a drink and loop back in five minutes like you said.

Personally I'd just walk up and say hi, waiting feels like overthinking it.
