Question about free speech zones on campus, do they actually help or just contain us?
Back in 2018 at UT Austin, I'd just grab a megaphone and shout near the main drag, but now the admin makes us reserve a tiny fenced spot by the parking garage 72 hours ahead. Has anyone else seen the new rules cut down real debate, or is that just the price of keeping hecklers out?

The 72 hour reservation thing sounded like a fair trade-off to me at first, but seeing how it killed the spontaneous back and forth you describe, I get it now. That little fenced spot just turns debate into a scheduled performance, doesn't it?
